Hermann Barth

born in 1956 in Munich, Germany. He studied French and German literature, semiotics and film theory at the Munich University LMU and wrote his thesis on rhetoric in film while working as a projectionist in a Munich arthouse cinema - when he wasn't wearing out his regular seat in Enno Patalas' famous Munich filmmuseum.
He now regularly gives lectures on rhetoric and drama structures in film, theory and practice of documentary filmmaking, film history, mainly at German film academies and universities.
Working as a consultant for creative documentary and fiction films and as a curator for the International Munich Documentary Filmfestival since its beginnings in 1985 till 2009, he knows many of the protagonists of the international documentary scene and all kinds and forms of the genre by heart. From 2002 to 2009 he worked as the creative director and financial manager of  DOK.FEST, the Int. Munich Documentary Film Festival.

In 2009 he founded Munich based cinepur film promotion.
Since then he has been working as a consultant for Pitching du Réel at Visions du Réel, Nyon.
